This is Leia. Those of you who wonder or visit my blog for a first time, she is about 19months old, Yorkshire Terrier. I would like to call her my baby, but most of the time she is more like my friend than a baby.
Memories of my childhood
I’ve always had some sort of ‘pets’ while I was growing up. From all kinds of puppies, baby chicks, hamsters, Iguana to two monkeys from overseas. Honestly, I would not call them ‘my‘ pets. I wanted it, so of course, my parents got it for me, but all the hard work of training and taking care of ‘my’ pets were my parents’ duties ; Now I think of, I was pretty spoiled brat! Gosh. I only gave them much love and play with them when I felt like it. So I didn’t know of having my very own dog will be little difficult since I didn’t take part in training or taking care of them.
I have a dog, a male Yorkshire Terrier name Chewy that we brought from South Korea to US, in my parents house which is now living with my parents. I remember when I first start living with my boyfriend. I had a big move all the way from Washington D.C area to California.(2,792.7 miles apart) I had a little homesick in the first couple of months, to be honest. I missed Chewy. I missed him more than my parents or my brother for some reason. I’ve never been this sad and depress in my life. Even when I moved from South Korea to U.S., I wasn’t so sad. I kept dreaming about Chewy, thinking about him, and one day it just hit me real bad, tears after tears for a few days. Long story short, that’s when we got Leia. My very first ‘own’ dog.
It was pretty rough when she was just a little pup. I’ve never trained a puppy so I had some rough time. Many ‘dog training’ books, overnight internet search, calling my mom.. Eventually figured it out that the best way to train the puppy is to repeat over and over until it knows. The potty training was the worst. I had to wake up every 3 hours to let her go potty. As I am a heavy sleeper, it was so hard to wake up every 3 hours but I had to do it.
Now all that hard rough time has passed. Now Leia goes to the potty by herself in her own little pad or outside if possible. She started to have her first heat few nights ago – that’s why she’s wearing silly doggie diaper in the first picture. It felt like she’s my little daughter, growing up and up. Overwhelmed by the fact that she’s getting mature enough to be a momma dog. Although I would love to see many teddy bear-faced puppies of Leia’s, many people & experts recommend to skip the first heat. So, that’s probably what I will do; Let her gets used to her cycle and get ready for the next heat.
Having my own pet is pretty rough in the beginning and requires many responsibility, however learning new stuffs and seeing my pet growing everyday is so precious. I can’t imagine how will i feel when I have my child! x
